Chairman’s Corner
Throughout the War for Independence, the Continental Congress called for official days of Thanksgiving and prayer through eight separate Proclamations. The national governing body, of which many Founders were a part of, called for a total of 15 official times of prayer.
Our country was founded upon Christian principles and faith. God was present in our schools, at the kitchen tables, home family Bible studies, and Sunday congregational worship. Today, our political landscape has turned from God, dismissing Him as only a fable not to be believed. The Bible contains a remedy for this attitude and belief. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 it states; “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Even though this passage was written about God’s chosen people, the Israelites, it certainly applies to us today. Those in power at the birth of our country, turned to God for guidance, contained in His written word in the Bible. Today, those who are in power need to practice what our ancestors observed and held dear as a foundation for the continued survival of the nation. God can heal us only if we turn back to Him once again. Here is a quote from President George Washington, 1789: “Whereas, it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor. Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November that we may all unite to render unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection.”
Now and thereafter, please don’t treat Thanksgiving as a day of football games, parades, and just having fun. While these are not wrong, they should come secondary. Pray to your Creator for all He has done for you, pray for those who defend us and can’t be with their loved ones to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.

Chaplain’s Chatter
The 2nd POTUS, John Adams stated, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”.
It must be stated that Adams referred to morality and religion according to the Bible; specifically the Ten Commandments as given in the Book of Exodus, Chapter 20. Adams believed that the Constitution’s system of self-government would fail without a foundation of private and public virtue among the people. He argued that morality and religion provided the necessary character for a free society to thrive.
When the People stray away from biblical morals, the Constitution gets abused and/or disregarded in such a way that America becomes less and less worthy of her freedom. Because the Constitution expresses such freedoms, the Founding Fathers held the view that a moral and virtuous populace was essential for the long-term success of the republic.
Part of biblical morality stems from the biblical concept that humans are created in the “image of God” (imago dei), which informed the Founders’ belief in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual. This biblical concept provided a foundation for the idea of natural, unalienable rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence.
Concerning the Rule of Law, the Founders believed that God ordained moral standards and that human legislation should align with these standards. The idea of the Rule of Law—that all citizens are subject to a higher law—was related to the biblical concept of equity and impartiality in justice, as seen in texts like Deuteronomy 16:18-20.
In the place where a people appeal to the morality of the Bible, you will find a people who are well-equipped and deserving to live in a self-governing republic. The American people as a whole must return to a biblical worldview, promoting biblical morality. Christianity teaches that God alone is the Lord of the conscience and therefore others with differing religious persuasions can practice their own faith according to dictates of conscience.
The separation of Church and State is NOT separation of State and God.
